Wessex Region vs South West Region

Last week saw Wessex take on the South West Region in a reduced match of 8 player teams, playing the Yellow and Blue courses at Cumberwell Park.

Some late arrivals meant the South West had to reorder their teams. Alastair Baldwin shared his teams and everyone made their way to the 1st tee. 

First off were Ali & Alex against the South West captain Mike Wake and his partner. The Wessex pair dominated and returned with a 6 & 5 win with Alex playing one of his best rounds apparently.

Second off were the strong pairing of the two Andy’s, Beal & Rideout, the latter fresh from his win at the National Golf Championships. The original South West pair they were going to play were moved to the last group to allow time for one of their players to arrive so the team was shuffled up. The Wessex pair proved too strong with another 6 & 5 win.

Third off were Les Trute and Mike Allen, on their way round this 4 ball were seen to all play provisional balls on one tee – but it later transpired it was only because they were unsure of the course. This was another one-sided affair – once again Wessex winning 4 & 3.

The final pairing of Ken Dooks & Tim Checketts were up against the County Secretary for Gloucestershire along with past CEO Bob Williams. After being behind from the start a mini revival on the back 9 threatened a comeback but alas it was too late and the South West pair won 4 & 2.

The final score and another win for Ali Baldwin and Wessex.
