2025 Wessex vs South West Region

Wessex took on South West region in the annual 4BBB format with 6 pairs from each region battling it out.

The superb Cumberwell Park hosted the event and thanks go to Ali James and his team for making the day a great success. Thanks also from me to all the members that stepped forward to represent the region, a late change meant that South West provided a sub for Wessex to make up the 12 players.

Captain Chris Huggins drew up the pairings and led the team out with Declan Healy, the Red and Orange courses proving a good challenge on the bright sunny day. The South West pairing however proving too strong taking the win.

Next out were Vice Captain Ali Baldwin and debutee Lawrence Wilkin who proved the stronger in this match taking the win and levelling the match.

Third out was Ken Dooks paired with sub Karen Rix from South West, the South West team didn’t falter and took the win to lead the match.

Fourth out Chris Tyrrell and James Short took this one to the 18th but finishing with a win to level the match.

Fifth pairing of evergreen Peter Grimes and Mike Allen returned to winning ways in a very one sided match both hitting their form again. Wessex now in the lead.

Final pairing of Tim Checketts and Alex Taylor would decide the outcome…. Worry not, they delivered another win with Wessex taking the match 4 – 2.

A really great day, not just enjoying the golf but also the camaraderie and banter.
