2025 Triangular Match

The annual Triangular match between Wessex/Hampshire/Sussex took place at the superb Worthing GC, with views across to the sun drenched sea.

Some last minute withdrawals meant 3 substitutes helped Wessex field a full team. All 3 teams assembled to a bacon roll and coffee, exchanging conversations with familiar faces from across the counties.

Setting off in 3 balls, 12 groups made their way round a very challenging course with numerous bunkers and undulating greens. Collecting in the bar afterwards for a well earned refreshment then onto a superb dinner and the results.

The results reveal is always the highlight as orders chop and change. Captain Chris selected the order to announce and after 8 Wessex were in the lead on 228 followed by Hampshire on 218 then Sussex on 217. Chris Tyrrell was the standout score with a superb 38 points with only one other score of 36 across all 3 teams demonstrating how challenging the course had been.

The nineth results revealed and the lowest dropped started to make things interesting, Wessex stayed in front on 237 but Sussex moved into second on 236 then Hampshire on 229 – one point in it.

Tenth scores revealed and the home course players had been saved until last by the Sussex captain, this started to show with Sussex taking the lead on 245, Wessex 241 then Hampshire 232.

Eleventh scores and another home course player for Sussex but their score stayed on 245 but so did Wessex on 241 with Hampshire coming up on the rails now on 240.

Final results in and ……a strong 34 points from Ali Baldwin put the pressure on, to this point there had still only been 2 scores of 36 or better but it was another Worthing player who needed 31 or better…..score revealed and it was 34!!! Hampshire score announced and the final standing :
Sussex 253
Wessex 249
Hampshire 247

There were still only 2 scores of 36 or better across all the teams showing what a challenge it was and just how good Chris Tyrrell’s score was as he took the Best Overall Individual Score Trophy, Ali Baldwin taking the Best Wessex Score Trophy with his 34.
